Is Imitation Screen Name Flattery?
Your online screen name projects the only image of yourself that the other poker players can see. What you chose has a profound effect on whether the other online poker players consider a power to be reckoned with, or a laughable fish. One of the most popular trends in screen names is to incorporate the name of a professional player into your screen name, for example MoneyMaker101 or Doyle1000.
I guess that the idea behind these imitation screen names is to project an image of professionalism. The theory is that the other players will automatically assume that you are a formidable player if you link your name with a professional poker player. If you are lucky, the other players at the table may even think that you are the professional player themselves. This would cause other players to hesitate to play with you, or possibly even become so flustered that they make silly mistakes.
Personally, I would advise you against using an imitation screen name. It is not going to help your game at the table, and the other players will know exactly what you are trying to do. You will have a much more profitable poker experience if you succeed on your own right, rather than hang on to the coattails of someone else’s success.
